Thorough, Neuro-Affirming Child ADHD Assessments

A compassionate, multi-disciplinary approach to understanding your child's unique brain type in Beverley and East Yorkshire.

What is ADHD?

ADHD is a term used to describe a unique ‘brain type’ or ‘neurotype’ that highlights natural differences in how a person processes information, regulates attention, manages motivation, and organises thoughts and actions.

An ADHD child's brain simply processes information differently from the majority (often referred to as 'neurotypical'). Being ADHD is a natural form of neurodiversity—much like dyslexia, which can frequently co-occur. It is something a child is born with, it is not a condition to be 'cured.' Instead, we focus on identifying where a child might need supportive strategies to navigate a world built for neurotypical minds.

Common differences a child with ADHD may experience:

  • Task Management: Difficulty starting or finishing tasks, even when they are important or high priority.

  • Executive Functioning: Challenges with organisation, planning, prioritising, and time management.

  • Working Memory: Forgetfulness and frequently losing track of daily information or personal belongings.

  • Physical or Mental Restlessness: A constant need for movement, fidgeting, or experiencing an intensely busy, fast-moving mind.

  • Fluctuating Attention: High levels of distractibility alongside periods of deep, intense focus (hyperfocus) on topics they love.

A young boy with light brown hair is standing at a table, holding a small box and looking at it with surprise. On the table in front of him, there is a wooden tray filled with sand, shells, and a small turtle figurine. The background shows a white shelf with woven baskets, a water bottle, and a framed artwork of a whale's tail and waves on the wall.

The Child Assessment Process

Step 1: Clinical Screening Appointment

An initial consultation to review your child's developmental history, discuss your current observations, and determine if a full clinical pathway is the right step forward.

Step 2: Main Assessment & Information Gathering

Our multi-disciplinary team (MDT) deep-dives into objective data gathering. For children, this stage includes:

  • The QbCheck: A validated, computer-based clinical test that objectively measures attention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity - three core features of ADHD. It tracks your child's activity levels, ability to sustain attention, and impulse inhibition.

  • Young Person Interview: A comfortable, low-pressure individual discussion with your child.

  • Parental Interview: A comprehensive developmental history interview with you to map out their behaviors across different settings.

  • School Information: A semi-structured questionnaire and/or school observation to see your child’s strengths and difficulties.

Step 3: MDT Review & Feedback

Our full clinical team reviews the multi-disciplinary findings together against gold-standard diagnostic criteria. We then invite you to a dedicated feedback session to discuss our conclusions.

Step 4: Comprehensive Clinical Report

You receive a fully structured, professional diagnostic report detailing our findings, alongside meaningful, neuro-affirming recommendations for home and school environments.

Unlocking EHCP and Educational Support

One of the biggest hurdles families face is getting schools to recognise and fund a child's hidden needs. A gold-standard MDT report from Wellcare provides the definitive, robust evidence needed to change the narrative. Our reports are custom-written to support your family through:

  • Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP): Providing the precise clinical language and specific environmental recommendations required by local authorities.

  • School Adjustments: Giving teachers a clear guide on sensory modifications, communication strategies, and emotional regulation spaces.

  • Exam & Classroom Accommodations: Securing formal adjustments like extra time, rest breaks, or quiet room access.

A Celebrating and Inclusive Space

We know that ADHD can manifest very differently depending on the child. Traditional diagnostic profiles often miss girls, children who are highly skilled at "masking" their difficulties to fit in, and young people exploring diverse gender identities.

Our clinicians are highly specialised in spotting these subtle profiles. Our clinic is a strictly safe, celebratory, and LGBTQ+ affirming space where every young person is validated exactly as they are.
