  • The initial appointment is an opportunity for you (or your child) to meet with a Clinical Psychologist and talk through the difficulties you are experiencing. We will ask questions to understand your current situation, relevant history, and what you are hoping to gain from therapy.

This session helps us assess whether Wellcare Health is the right service for your needs. We will discuss our recommendations openly, which may include ongoing therapy with us or, where appropriate, signposting to another service or team that may be better suited to support you.

The fee for the initial appointment is £150. If you choose to continue, ongoing sessions are charged at £120 per appointment.

  • An initial therapy appointment typically lasts 60 – 80 minutes. Therapy sessions thereafter typically last 50 - 60 minutes, unless otherwise agreed with your clinician.

  • Yes, online appointments may be offered where clinically appropriate. This decision is made by the clinician using their professional judgement and will take into account the nature of the difficulties, individual circumstances, and whether online therapy would be suitable and effective. This will usually be discussed during the initial appointment.

  • Yes, we offer therapy for children, young people, and families. Depending on the child or young person’s needs, work may involve individual sessions, parent or carer sessions, or joint family work. The approach will be guided by clinical judgement and discussed collaboratively with you.

  • No, we currently do not offer therapy through private insurance companies. All sessions at Wellcare Health are self-funded, and payment is made directly to the clinic.

  • Therapy sessions are usually held on a weekly or fortnightly basis, depending on your individual circumstances and the nature of the difficulties being addressed. Your clinician will discuss what frequency is likely to be most helpful and can adjust the schedule as needed throughout the course of therapy.

  • Finding the right therapist is an important part of effective therapy. At Wellcare Health, your initial appointment is designed to help determine whether our service and clinician are a good fit for your needs. During this session, you’ll have the opportunity to discuss your concerns, ask questions, and get a sense of the therapist’s approach. Therapy is a collaborative process, and it’s normal to check in with yourself about how comfortable and supported you feel. If it doesn’t feel like the right fit, your clinician can help explore other options or recommend a service better suited to you or your child.

  • Yes. All therapy at Wellcare Health is confidential. What you share in sessions is private and will not be disclosed without your consent, except in situations where there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, or as required by law. Your clinician will discuss confidentiality and its limits at the start of therapy, so you know exactly what to expect.

  • At Wellcare Health, we aim to balance privacy for the child or young person with keeping parents informed where appropriate. Generally, therapy sessions are private to give children and young people a safe space to express themselves. However, clinicians will work collaboratively with parents and carers. You may be invited to attend part of a session, provide information about your child’s needs, or receive general feedback on progress, without breaching confidentiality. The approach is always guided by what is clinically appropriate, the age of the child, and the child’s comfort. Your clinician will discuss these arrangements with you at the start, so everyone is clear on how involvement will work.

  • Prior to the appointment, we will ask you to complete our referral form, which helps us gain a better understanding of your background and current concerns.

The screening assessment provides an opportunity for you, or your child/young person and family, to discuss developmental history, family background, strengths, and any current concerns or difficulties that may be affecting everyday life.

For children and young people, we will explore with parents/carers about early development, education, and current needs. For adult assessments, we will explore personal history, current experiences, and the impact of any difficulties across different areas of life, such as work, education, relationships, and wellbeing.

When arranging the appointment, we will discuss the most appropriate format for the assessment. In some cases for child and young people assessments, it may be helpful to arrange part of the appointment separately from the individual being assessed, as certain topics may be sensitive or difficult to discuss openly (for example, previous trauma, family circumstances, or safeguarding concerns).

Following this appointment, the clinician will discuss with you whether a full autism assessment is indicated or if there are other local agencies which may be better suited to meet your needs. This is the opportunity for you to make an informed-decision about the next-steps and a full understanding of the assessment process potential outcomes.

You will then receive a summary report of the screening appointment and recommendations made.

  • After your assessment has finished, you will be offered a feedback appointment where the outcome and individualised recommendations are explained. You will then receive a full comprehensive report of all the information gathered as part of the assessment. This will be then shared with you, your GP, and any other organisation you choose (e.g., school).

  • The SEND Code of Practice requires Local Authorities to consider relevant evidence relating to a child or young person's needs, including evidence from appropriately qualified professionals. Private diagnostic reports should not be disregarded solely because they were obtained privately. NHS England also states that patients remain entitled to free NHS care if they choose to pay for additional private care. To date, we have had no issues with our diagnoses and reports being accepted by other organisations (e.g. schools, NHS, or local authorities).

  • If you choose to proceed with an ADHD assessment, the main information-gathering process will begin. This is a comprehensive assessment designed to build a detailed understanding of current difficulties, developmental history, strengths, and support needs.

Depending on the age of the individual being assessed, this may include:

    • Interviews with parents, carers, partners, or other people who know the individual well.

    • A clinical interview with the child, young person, or adult.

    • Questionnaires completed by family members, schools, colleges, employers, or other relevant professionals (where appropriate).

    • Observation-based assessments or information gathered from educational or workplace settings (where necessary).

    • A standardised computer-based assessment (QbCheck) with the individual

    • Please note that every assessment is unique, and the information required may vary from person to person. The exact appointments and assessment components will be tailored to the individual's circumstances, age, and presenting needs.

Throughout the process, you will be kept fully informed by your allocated lead clinician, who will explain each stage of the assessment and what to expect moving forward.

  • By choosing Wellcare Health you can be assured in knowing assessments are fully valid and credible. You will receive an assessment from a health care provider that has a dedicated team that understands autism and the different ways it presents. Your quality of care will be led by compassionate, highly skilled, and knowledge clinicians that take pride in their roles. Because We Care. The below outlines how we ensure we follow NICE Guidelines and offer Gold-standard ADHD assessments:

    • All ADHD assessments use gold-standard tools, such as the Qb.

    • All ADHD assessments include information gathering from multiple settings with your consent; for example this could be school, groups/clubs, home, and the observations made by clinicians at Wellcare Health.

    • All ADHD assessments are reviewed by more than one clinician (within our multi-disciplinary team meetings).

    • All ADHD assessments are conducted by highly experienced clinicians that have great expertise in this field. All clinicians are registered with their regulatory bodies which set the standards for their profession which they must adhere to.

All clinicians’ training and skills ensure that alternative explanations and differential diagnoses are always considered.

  • In short, being neuoraffirming is about honouring people as they are, empowering them, and working to build a world where all minds are valued.

To explain further, it is about recognising, respecting, and supporting the natural variation in human brain function and behaviour. It’s about ensuring we affirm and validate the experiences, identities, and needs of neurodivergent people rather than viewing them through a lens of pathology or deficit. This includes taking a strengths-based approach alongside recognising and supporting difficulties, ensuring acceptance and inclusion, listening to lived experiences, rejecting harmful practices, and advocating for systemic change.

  • The NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) provide recommendations based on the most up to date evidence, and set quality standards on clinical guidelines for practitioners and services operating within the UK. When an organisation follows these guidelines these are deemed to be the ‘gold standard’ as they use the most up to date evidence to create their quality standards for clinicians and services within the UK.

  • At Wellcare Health, inclusivity is not an afterthought, it’s at the heart of everything we do.

We believe that everyone's experiences are valid, and we approach every individual with respect, curiosity, and a commitment to understanding their unique needs and experiences. Our autism assessments are designed to be affirming, accessible, and person-centred, with adjustments made to suit communication preferences, sensory needs, and cultural contexts.

In our training packages, we take a neuroaffirmative approach, this means we actively challenge stigma, promote strengths-based perspectives, and prioritise the voices and insights of neurodivergent people, including those with lived experience on our team.

We are also committed to creating a welcoming environment for people of all backgrounds. This includes being mindful of race, gender identity, sexuality, disability, and socioeconomic status. Our materials and services reflect a broad range of identities and experiences, and we regularly review our practices to ensure they remain inclusive, respectful, and equitable.

In short: inclusion is not just something we talk about, it is something we practice, every step of the way.

  • Our training packages offer significant, measurable benefits to your organisation across multiple levels:

    • Improved quality of care by equipping your team with a deeper understanding of neurodiversity. Our training enhances your staff’s ability to provide respectful, individualized, and effective care and/or interactions. This leads to better outcomes and greater service user trust, particularly among neurodivergent individuals who may otherwise avoid certain settings or mask due to previous negative experiences.

    • Enhanced Staff Confidence and Communication; Your staff will gain practical tools and strategies for engaging with neurodivergent individuals in a way that reduces misunderstandings, builds rapport, and promotes dignity. This reduces burnout and increases confidence, especially in high-pressure environments such as education settings and corporate enterprises.

    • Inclusive and Compliant Practices; our training ensures your organisation aligns with best practice standards and legal requirements around equality, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility (e.g., the Equality Act). It also prepares your teams for inspections or audits where culturally competent care is evaluated.

    • Reputation and Community Trust; being known as a neuroaffirming and inclusive organisation can improve your organisation’s public image, helping to build trust with neurodivergent communities and their families. This can increase service user retention, widen service reach, and strengthen community partnerships.

    • Reduced Complaints and Risk; By training staff to avoid ableist assumptions or unintentionally harmful practices, you mitigate the risk of service user complaints, grievances, or reputational damage related to discrimination or poor communication.

    • Workforce Development and Retention; Staff feel more valued and equipped when given meaningful professional development. Neuroaffirming training supports a more inclusive internal culture, which can increase staff satisfaction and retention - especially for neurodivergent employees.
